The Wilmington Flower Market ‘Battle of the Bands’ — a Flower Market Kick Off will be on Wednesday, May 4th from 5 to 8 pm at Rockford Park. This WSTW sponsored event will rock the park with live music. Come out and vote for your favorite band!
The Wilmington Flower Market is steeped in tradition and the fun-filled three day event takes place Mother’s Day weekend (Thursday, May 5th through Saturday, May 7th). It a perfect place to shop for Mom, as there are a wide selection of plants and flowers, as well as crafts and merchant wares for sale. For the kids there are carnival rides and games. WDEL stage will present live music and a wide variety of food vendors will be offering a bunch of delicious options.
Quite possibly the area’s most renowned event, Winterthur’s annual Point-To-Point will be held Sunday, May 8th. This year marks the 38th year for the festive day of horse racing, elegant tailgates and plenty of fun child-friendly and canine-friendly activities. There literally is something for everyone — antique auto exhibit featuring Rolls-Royces and Bentleys, the Delaware State Police Pipe Band, Parade of River Hills Foxhounds, Parade of Antique Carriages.
Many tailgaters go all out … some even bring crystal glasses and china! Every year the tailgate competition exceeds expectations and even if you don’t plan on tailgating, strolling through the tailgate area is an experience in itself.
Point-To-Point falls on Mother’s Day, May 8th. What better way to pamper Mom than to treat her to a lavish lunch at this the special Mother’s Day Brunch Tent.
If you’re a dog lover and want to support the Delaware SPCA, you won’t want to miss The Paws N’ Applause Dog Show at Cool Spring Reservoir Park on Saturday, May 14th from 11 am to 5 pm. The Event costs $4 per person and will feature a Doggy & Me Fashion Show, Music, Contests, Awards, Door Prizes, Food and Vendors.
The 24th annual Willowdale Steeplechase is Sunday May, 15th. This family-friendly event is enjoyed by over 10,000 spectators who spend a casual yet sophisticated day in Chester County’s horse country that hosts a day of world-class steeplechase racing for the benefit several charities.
Also this weekend for the more athletically inclined is the 10th annual Wilmington Grand Prix, one of the premier criterium-style bike races in the U.S. Lastly, if you are a beer and wine aficionado or simply enjoy a chance to sip a variety of stellar beverages while listening to some great music, check out the 2nd annual Grapes and Grains Beer & Wine Festival on May 14th at Peachtree Station in Middletown, Delaware.
