Spring is the season of rebirth and the perfect time for outdoor celebrations. From Steeplechases, to Graduations to Mother’s Day, it seems that every weekend fills up quickly.
With the pandemic still an issue for our nation, many spring events have gone virtual or been cancelled. But there are still plenty spring and summer events being held in our area with COVID-19 safety protocols in place.
Delaware and the surrounding area have a number of traditional events that many look forward to each year. Here are a few that have adapted to the new normal:
The Celebrity Chefs Celebration is offering a hybrid format that runs from April 18th – 25th. Participants will have a chance to interact virtually with local and guest Celebrity Chefs virtually. In addition, there are Dine-In or Takeout options at several upscale local restaurants to sample a bit of their culinary talents. Purchase tickets by April 9th for guaranteed reservations.
Quite possibly the area’s most renowned event, Winterthur’s annual Point-To-Point will be held Sunday, May 30th . This year will offer tailgate parking to owners of ‘Lifetime Rights’ and limit the number of guests to 3,600. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, there will be no general admission.
This year marks the 43rd year for the festive day of horse racing and elegant tailgates. There will be COVID safety measures in place – although food and drink are permitted, it will not be available for sale on site.

The 28th annual Willowdale Steeplechase is Saturday May, 8th. This family-friendly event is enjoyed by numerous spectators who spend a casual yet sophisticated day in Chester County’s horse country. This world-class steeplechase event is for the benefit several charities.
The Belllefonte Art Festival is scheduled for May 15th and promises a nice distraction with a variety of visual arts, performance arts and culinary arts . There with be Covid-conscience protocols in place, such as timed entrance, to limit the crowd size and allow for proper social distancing.

This year marks the 59th season of the Rehoboth Band Stand and it seems the pandemic isn’t going to put a kibosh on the tradition. Check their most current line-up of talent on their events page.
Also this Delaware State Fair promises ten days of things to do, eat and see with games, rides, livestock shows, music and competitions. It will be held at the Harrington Fairgrounds from July22-31, 2021.
Finally, the Firefly Festival that offers up a spectacular weekend of music is set for September 23-26, 2021 at The Woodlands in Dover, Delaware. I suspect more information will be coming soon.
